Buckmore Park has been at the forefront of British karting for several decades and is well known for giving motorsport legends their first taste of competitive motor racing.

Purchased in 2015 by seven-time Motorcycle World Champion and Ferrari Formula 1 World Champion John Surtees, the Chatham track and facilities have benefited from significant investment and improvements by the Surtees family. Buckmore Park is one of the most impressive and advanced karting circuits in the world.

The brief

As part of their ongoing investment in their Medway venue, Buckmore Park wanted to replace their aging telephone system with one that has greater flexibility and longevity.

It was important that the solution incorporated VoIP telephony but also provided connection to the existing cabling infrastructure, which was a mixture of:

  • Traditional 1308 copper wiring.
  • Legacy equipment attached to this, such as analogue devices.
  • CAT5 structured data cabling.
  • Wireless links to some of the facilities around the track.

Essential to the deployment was the reliability of the VoIP internet-based voice services, to ensure the maximum return on the park’s investment in a Dedicated Private Internet Connection or leased line.

Buckmore Park wanted to achieve this alongside a reduction in recurring costs, adding to the return on their investment.

Finally, they needed a telecoms company that could provide and support all the required services, so that they had just one port of call for any queries or issue resolution.

The solution

Panasonic hybrid telephony

Our telecoms consultants recommended that a Panasonic NS Hybrid IP Telephony solution would be best suited to Buckmore Park’s requirements and future aspirations, due to its low cost of deployment and ability to serve a true hybrid environment.

The investment required for the Panasonic NS Range of systems is beneficial because the configuration structure enables the company to invest in only the features and services it needs. It also has the major advantage that additional services can be added on later.

Overcoming the challenges of multiple sites

The installation had its challenges as deployment was to be over a large area served by various locations and buildings.

Buckmore Park had to be confident that the company they contracted to perform this installation would be able to plan and manage it to minimise downtime and disruption. Our experienced engineers were able to deliver on this promise and our estimated time for installation was met without a hitch.

Cost savings through SIP Trunks

In addition to the smooth installation, Buckmore Park has adopted our recommendation to use SIP Trunks, an efficient way of connecting VoIP calls. This has given them a saving on the cost of their telephone services by reducing the individual cost per line, and a significant reduction on call spend via generous inclusive call packages.

The results

The switch to Panasonic hybrid telephony has given Buckmore Park a significant cost saving, alongside a technical solution which will serve them well for many years to come.

They will also continue to benefit from the dedicated support of our consultants and engineers.

We recently changed over to ITS when looking at upgrading our current telephone system to a new hybrid system that could take us through for years to come. From the first meeting with Nigel, right through to the recent installation and support, I cannot fault their service, communication and their overall friendly and professional manner.
